Given the chance to tour around the largest city in the state of Alabama this weekend? Do you know what places you should be spending this precious time at? With a lot of fun and great things to do in the area, I bet you might find it hard deciding where to start your Birmingham adventure. Worry no more though because we got you covered with this amazing guide to fun things you can do around this wonderful, multi-cultural city that is also home to a world-class university ufabet.
We don’t want to keep you waiting, so let’s get on with the top 10 things to do in Birmingham:
1. Meet and greet animals at Birmingham Zoo.
The Birmingham Zoo is a home to 230 different species of animal and it’s one of the city’s top attraction with over half a million visitors every year. The zoo is now the leader in animal conservation and a home to endangered species from six different continents. They have recently introduced a new area called Trails of Africa which protects African elephants. A lot of activities awaits you in the zoo like feeding the giraffes and the Sea Lion Splash Show.
2. Take a fright tour at Sloss Furnaces.
Brave enough to visit a well-known haunted attraction in America? Take a guided night tour at Sloss Furnaces. Once a blast furnace between 1882 and 1971, when it was closed it was the only US blast furnace that has been opened to the public. During the tour, you can learn about the incredible (but creepy) history, long lists of death in the building and hear the story about Mr. James “Slag” Wormwood who was the foreman on the graveyard shift. By the way, he’s the man responsible for the most deaths in the history of the furnace. (How can I say that so casually?)
Sloss Furnaces is open for public viewing several months every year and tickets are sold at the entrance door.
3. View amazing collections at the Birmingham Museum of Art.
Home to more than 26,000 paintings, drawings, prints, and decorative arts from all continents, Birmingham Museum of Art is a must-see. The building contains works of arts that show a wide spectrum of cultures from ancient to modern and has the largest collection of Asian art in the Southeast. Birmingham Museum of Art opened in 1951 and charges no entrance fee except during occasional special exhibitions.
4. Get up close and personal with Science at The McWane Science Center.
“Change lives through Science and wonder”. The mission statement of The McWane Science Center. This is an excellent place for children and adults alike to explore and learn a lot of things about Science without even realizing they’re studying it. The center has four levels to explore that includes a touch pool where you can touch the sharks and stingrays. Another floor is designated to a whole section of dinosaurs which everyone would surely love. Tired looking around? Take a seat and relax while watching movies at an IMAX Cinema or take some lunch at a Cafe.
